Community Guidelines
The principles that keep The Hall of Sulyse a place worth writing in.
Last updated: June 2025
Our Founding Principle
The Hall of Sulyse exists because we believe in the power of authentic human expression. Every guideline below flows from a single conviction: this community is a place where every poet deserves to feel safe, seen, and celebrated.
1. Authenticity
Share your own original work. Do not plagiarise, copy, or present another writer's words as your own. This includes passing off AI-generated text as human-authored poetry. Authenticity is the foundation of trust in this community.
2. Respect
Engage with others as you would wish to be engaged with. Critique is welcome; cruelty is not. When offering feedback, focus on the work rather than the person. Harassment, personal attacks, hate speech, or discrimination of any kind — based on race, gender, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic — will result in immediate removal.
3. Content Standards
Content that is sexually explicit, graphically violent, or harmful to vulnerable groups is not permitted. Mature themes — grief, trauma, darkness — are welcome when handled with craft and intention. If your work explores difficult territory, lead with your humanity. Shock for its own sake is not poetry.
4. Constructive Discourse
In discussions, debates about craft, form, and ideas are encouraged. Personal political or religious arguments are best kept to other forums. When disagreements arise, address the idea, not the person.
5. No Spam or Self-Promotion
The community spaces are for genuine conversation and connection. Do not use discussion threads to advertise external services, solicit followers, or post repetitive promotional content. One thoughtful mention of your work in a relevant context is fine; relentless self-promotion is not.
6. Intellectual Property
Respect copyright. If you quote another poet's work in a discussion, attribute it clearly. Do not upload works for which you do not hold the rights.
7. Reporting
If you encounter content that violates these Guidelines, please report it via the contact page. Our team reviews all reports and responds as promptly as possible. We rely on community members to help us maintain this space.
8. Consequences
Violations of these Guidelines may result in content removal, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination, depending on severity. We approach moderation with fairness and proportionality, but we will always prioritise the safety of our community over any individual account.
9. The Spirit of the Hall
Rules exist because the alternative — a hall without walls — serves no one. But we hope you experience this community not as a list of prohibitions, but as an open door. Come in. Write honestly. Read generously. That is all we ask.
